December Events

There's something for everyone this month. Check out these upcoming LEAP events:

  • Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25: LEAP's offices are closed. And there are no Mobile Market stops. Thursday's Farm Share pickup takes place on Wednesday, Nov. 23. Enjoy some time off, celebrating what's meaningful to you!
  • Tuesday, Nov. 29: The LEAP Mobile Market Winter Season begins. (See the full schedule above.) The Mobile Market will have stops only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays until the Main Season restarts next spring. Follow LEAP's Facebook and/or Instagram pages for updates if severe weather is forecast.
  • Saturday, Dec. 3: The Grandin Village Business Association is hosting WinterFest, from 3 to 7. Find a sampling of Grandin Village Farmers Market vendors with holiday food, gifts, greenery, wreaths, and more, inside the CoLab. (LEAP gifts certificates will be on sale, too!) Grandin Road from Westover to Memorial will be filled with holiday music, crafts vendors, kids activities, and amazing food. What a fun way to buy local for the holidays!
  • Saturday, Dec. 17: The Grandin Village Farmers Market will be open in its regular spot (the parking lot behind the Roanoke Co+op) from 10 am to 1 pm. There will be no other Grandin Village Farmers Markets until Saturday, Jan. ¬†21, 2023. Other winter market dates are 2/18 and 3/18. The West End Farmers Market is open every Tuesday from 3 to 6 pm, year round, to help keep you stocked with local food. Questions? Email:
  • Saturday, Dec. 17: Build a Backyard Bug Hotel. In the first of four fun garden-focused events, gather at the Community Room at the LEAP Kitchen (1210 Patterson Ave.) from 1-3 pm. You'll be making a winter refuge for beneficial insects in your yard. Check out our website for future events. (They'll be held -- like the Grandin Village Farmers Market -- on the 3rd Saturday of each month.) Email: or call Community Gardens Manager Hannah Patrick (540-947-1589) with questions.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 7: The Roanoke Foodshed Network continues its series of online learning exchanges, giving participants a chance to hear from food systems leaders within our community. ¬†December's discussion centers on cultivating care in our communities, from mobile markets to community art, featuring Bernadette (BJ) Lark of CommUnity Arts Reach and LEAP leaders Kelly Key and Connie Kenny, as speakers.
