Applesauce Cake

Servings:
Makes 3 loaf pans or 1 large tube pan

Ingredients:

  • 32 oz. applesauce
  • 2 sticks (1 cup) butter
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. ground allspice
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • powdered sugar (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Generously grease loaf pans or tube pan.
  2. Heat applesauce and butter together in a saucepan over low heat, until butter melts. Set aside.
  3. Combine flour, sugar, soda, and spices in a large mixing bowl.
  4. Add applesauce and butter to the flour mixture.
  5. Stir in raisins and walnuts. Pour into baking pan(s).
  6. Bake for 90 minutes. Test with a toothpick to make sure the cake is baked through.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar, if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature.
